Abstract

This article discusses whether the Bachelor's degree in Brazilian Sing Language (BSL), often understood and used as training for professional Brazilian Sign Translators (BST), is sufficient for acquiring the skills and competencies necessary for professional practice. To this end, a comparative documentary analysis of the Pedagogical Projects of the Bachelor's degree in BSL at the Federal Rural University of Semiárido (FRUSA) and the Bachelor's degree in BSL at the Federal University of Roraima (FURR) was conducted to observe the constitution and allocation of knowledge throughout the curricula. The results indicate that, despite similar nomenclatures and shared content, the Bachelor's degree specifically serves teacher training. It is necessary to complement the knowledge acquired by those who wish to work as LIBRAS, as well as the need to strengthen and create new bachelor's degree programs throughout the country, especially in the Northeast region.

Nielson Firmino de Oliveira, FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF PARAIBA

PhD and Master's student in Literature from the Graduate Program in Literature at UFPB, specializing in semiotic studies. He is a Federal Public Servant at the Federal University of Paraíba, serving as a Libras Translator and Interpreter. He served as deputy coordinator and monitor for the Libras extension course - CCHLA/UFPB and the LIBRAS translation extension project. He is a representative of the Inclusion and Accessibility Committee of the Areia branch - CCA/UFPB - Campus II. He is a tutor for the subjects Didactics and Sign Writing I, II, and III in the undergraduate program in LIBRAS.
