Abstract

This article discusses the implementation of inclusion in higher education based on an analysis of the paths and inclusion actions of three higher education institutions (HEIs) in southern Brazil. It is part of a larger research project developed within the Research Group on Democratization, Inclusion, and Management in Higher Education at the University of Vale do Rio dos Sinos (Unisinos), aimed at analyzing the management strategies used by HEIs to support the retention and graduation of students with disabilities, with the goal of identifying, building, and promoting processes and practices for inclusion that enhance academic training. Between 2020 and 2022, the research focused on analyzing the institutional documents of two community higher education institutions and one federal one. We also spoke with 34 participants through semi-structured interviews and questionnaires. Based on the principle of the right to education and institutional responsibility in providing accessibility and accommodations, the results show significant progress in the spaces studied and highlight management actions that are still needed to improve inclusive processes.
