Abstract

Learning management is not easy, especially in the contemporary world, which follows the logic of globalization. This logic requires the job market to become increasingly internationalized. The same applies to school education, which needs to emphasize the learning of a second language and the culture of other countries. This article draws on various authors and Brazilian educational legislation to establish parameters for discussing the dynamics of English language learning in Brazil. The objective is to identify challenges and alternatives for English language teaching and learning based on selected writings and publications on the subject, addressing the question: what alternatives exist to enhance English language teaching and learning in basic education? The conclusion is that English teaching must be prioritized, without neglecting other curricular components. Bilingualism is a viable approach that enables this to happen.
